Some webmasters place images right next to the links displayed inside Google AdSense ads. Placing images here confuses the visitor making them believe that the link contains something that is related to the image, in the same time this practice can increase click radio considerably, Google clearly specifies that images that are close to ads should not confuse the visitor making him click the link thinking that is related to the image.

Google also posted some samples/screens of images+ads that are not an acceptable practice:

When a visitor clicks an ad thinking that it is something related to the image next to it then it will realize he/she did a mistake and click the back button right after that, in this situation the advertiser just lost some money (for that click).

So these practices are NOT accepted by Google AdSense program.
